[solved]Meet difficulties when start from LV_PORT_ESP32

Description

I’m a newbie with LVGL. I met difficulties when trying to compile my main.c code for ESP32 with lvgl lib. The lv_port_esp32 can be compiled smoothly and works fine on my ESP32 board.

However, I met kinds of errors when I try to use the example code to modify the main file to test the example code for one buttom.

My question is:

Which line of the original main.c file should I start to modify?

What steps should I follow if I want to test the one buttom example code on my board?



What MCU/Processor/Board and compiler are you using?

  • MCU: Espressif ESP32
  • ILI9341 as TFT controller
  • XPT2046

What have you tried so far?

  1. Git clone the lv_port_esp32 repository
  2. Configure ESP-IDF vscode extension & vsCode.
  3. Successfully compile and run the lv_port_esp32 demo on my board.
  4. Edit the lv_port_esp32/main/main.c file

Is there any smallest example project that uses ESP-IDF, lvgl as component? Embedded system developing meet difficulties because of the variety of hardware.

Depending on how LVGL is being built, you can just copy the two example functions into your main.c file and use them. Or, you can call lv_example_get_started_1 as you tried, but in that case, you need to ensure the LVGL examples folder is included in your build system (some platforms only compile what’s in src by default).

I can’t give a more specific reply without knowing what the errors are.

I look into the main.c in lv_port_esp32 and disassembly the code step by step. I finally implemented a buttom showing on my TFT screen using the code in function lv_ex_get_started_1 in lv_example_get_started_1.c file.

Too many #ifdef that really disturb me. And lack of example code for a complete small project in the quick start page sharpen the learning curve for newbie.

During the main.c file editing process, I carefully comment out code that is nothing about my needs. The variety of hardware in embedded sys development makes the #ifdefs very embarrassed, isn’t it?

However, thanks for this forum!! And as a feedback for this community and for the next new comer, I’ll share a blog post about how to get started from the lv_port_esp32, how to modify the main.c file to implement the simplest component in the screen.
