Has TikTok Changed How You Approach UI/UX Design Ideas?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been noticing how often short-form videos—especially on TikTok—are showcasing quick UI/UX concepts, animations, and micro-interactions. Some of them are pretty creative, even if they’re more about visual appeal than real-world usability.

For those of you working with LVGL or embedded UI design, do you ever take inspiration from TikTok content? Or do you feel most of it isn’t practical for constrained environments like microcontrollers?

I’m curious how others here balance inspiration vs. feasibility. Has TikTok actually influenced your workflow or design thinking in any way, or do you mostly stick to traditional resources?

I personally don’t know how big the embedded UI development community is on TikTok. Can you share any examples of such videos?

I personally use YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit and I see the embedded UI community is generally very active.

I enjoy watching videos from the maker community, but most of them showcase electronics solutions and few of them have UIs of some sort. I guess that showing both cases could be a good opportunity, since a good UI draws more attention than a blinking LED.

The way TikTok or Shorts video formats have influenced me is in the way I have to present my work: it has to be easy to understand and keep you engaged.

Yeah, that’s a good question. You’re right — the embedded UI niche isn’t really “big” on TikTok yet, at least not in the same way it is on YouTube or LinkedIn.

Most of what I’ve seen are short clips showing UI animations, touch interactions, or menu transitions on small displays, but they rarely go into the technical side (like LVGL code or performance constraints). It’s more like quick visual inspiration than actual learning material.

If you’re looking for examples, try searching things like “embedded UI animation” or “small screen UI design” — you’ll find a few creators experimenting with it, though it’s still pretty scattered.

I still feel YouTube and forums are way more useful when you actually want to build something, but TikTok can be interesting for quick ideas.

I agree with you, especially on the presentation side. That shift toward short, engaging demos is definitely noticeable. Even when I’m working on something small, I catch myself thinking how I’d show it in a quick clip.

I’ve also seen similar short-form content trends across different platforms, including some TikTok 18-type spaces (protik18 has a mix of that kind of content too). A lot of it leans more toward experimental or visually interesting UI ideas rather than practical embedded use, but it can still spark some creative thinking.

And yeah, a clean UI really does make a difference. Even a simple project feels more “complete” when the interface looks polished instead of just functional.

For actual development though, I’m still sticking with docs and longer videos — these short clips are more for ideas than real guidance.
