I repeat put python to trash and test board with arduino or C.
Simple for config is for example Arduino GFX lib.

Thanks for the suggestion but the whole reason I have posted a question and am trying to get to the bottom of this (which is likely a bug in the Micropython binding) is that I want to use Micropython for this project. You’ll notice I have posted in the “Micropython” category.
