Hi @GC-RmG ,

Dumping a build log is not really useful without some background on what you are trying to do.

Please provide:

  • Details about what you changed (changes to lv_conf.h for example, or other files)
  • Steps to build and reproduce the problems you see.

Specifically, it’s not clear to me why your application size overflows.

You can see on our CI workflow that latest lv_micropython application consumes only 2277392 bytes, not 2434288 as in your log:

bootloader @0x001000 23152 ( 5520 remaining)
partitions @0x008000 3072 ( 1024 remaining)
application @0x010000 2277392 ( 81904 remaining)

using fresh lv_conf.h with 1 change… #define LV_COLOR_DEPTH 16

Project build complete. To flash, run this command: ....
bootloader @0x001000 23264 ( 5408 remaining)
partitions @0x008000 3072 ( 1024 remaining)
application @0x010000 2380288 ( -20992 remaining)
ERROR: application overflows allocated space of 2359296 bytes by 20992 bytes

Compatibility with CMake < 2.8.12 will be removed from a future version of

I mostly was removing items and changed fonts to 12, 20, 48

posted issue in micropython forum…
[MP 1.17 + ulab = too big for TinyPICO? - MicroPython Forum]

Greetings! @GC-RmG

ERROR: application overflows allocated space of 2359296 bytes by 74992 bytes

it is simply overflow the size of partition, the changed font will be frozen into firmware that obiously increase the size.

You would make more big bowl to take that overflowed firmware.

I assume that you have 4MB Flash,

lv_micropython/ports/esp32/partitions.csv
Name, Type, SubType, Offset, Size, Flags
nvs, data, nvs, 0x9000, 0x6000,
phy_init, data, phy, 0xf000, 0x1000,
factory, app, factory, 0x10000, 0x258000,
vfs, data, fat, 0x268000, 0x198000,

2457600 bytes for firmware space = 0x258000 (hexademical)
0x10000 + 0x258000 = 0x268000
0x268000 + 0x198000 = 0x400000(4MB)

Oops, I believed that you know the above, I misunderstood the issue that you asked,
I just leave above for the information.

Thanks Lee…

Yea so between lvgl and micropython growing in size, plus some of my modules,
I have an overflow.
So I trided to remove features from lvgl (lv_conf.h) and got errors at top of post.
I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction…
without having to build for each feature removed 1 by 1.

So, you are building MP+Ulab+LVGL and your program size is too large for the “factory” partition.

  • Try to remove some fonts. You currently have 3 fonts enabled in lv_conf (sizes 12/20/48)
  • There are some dependencies between widgets. In your modified lv_conf.h you removed “image” (LV_USE_IMG is 0) but it is required by “label” (LV_USE_LABEL is 1). There is even a comment about this in lv_conf.h!
That is the reason for the compilation error you are seeing with your modified lv_conf.h.
  • Did you consider editing partitions.csv, making your vfs partition smaller and factory (app firmware) bigger?

@amirgon I think you may have misread that; it is the image that depends on the label, not the other way around. However, you are correct that it appears to be a dependency issue; the list widget needs images enabled.

I am trying to reduce my micropython footprint because I need room for OTA.
The only things I need are… Keyboard, Dropdown, Button, Labels, Lists? (for dropdown)

With this lv_conf.h settings I am abile to build without overflow BUT
I have no graphics… labels ect.
Using same code as used in v8.1.0 that worked.
No errors and my touch events are sent to repl and show so code is running.
Where to start ???
